ULTRAVOX-Dancing with Tears in my Eyes
Ultravox (formerly Ultravox!) was one of the primary exponents of the British electronic pop music movement of the early 1980s. The band was particularly associated with the New Romantic movement, although it both pre- and post-dated New Romantic by several years, drawing inspiration variously from punk, the artier side of glam rock, pub rock and latterly straightforward synthpop.

Ultravox - Visions In Blue
This video is quite possibly Ultravoxs best. Although I have yet to seem them all, this one really tugs at my heart-strings. Hopefully it will do something for you.
This video was banned in the U.S., for obvious reasons. However, I dont think that it was banned in the UK.
The song appears on Ultravoxs most commercially successful album, Quartet.

ULTRAVOX - HYMN

Ultravox - Vienna [stereo]
First time in stereo: Ultravox musicvideo "Vienna", released in january 1981. This video is featured on the DVD "The Collection", but only with mono sound.
I removed the mono track and replaced it with the stereo track from the song on CD.
Here is what drummer Warren Cann said about making this great video:
"It may come as a surprise to know that approximately half of it was shot on locations in central London, mainly at Covent Garden and also in the old Kilburn Gaumont Theatre in North London (sadly, now a Bingo hall). The embassy party scene was in some house wed rented in town - cant remember where but I do remember that it took the crew a long time to set up the lights to prepare for filming... so long that we all got impatient with waiting and dipped into the many cases of wine wed laid on for refreshment after the shoot. By the time the crew was ready to film, we were all well partying for real...
The other half was in Vienna. We did it on the cheap, there was just us and Nick, our trusty camera man. We took an early morning flight to Vienna, ran round like loonies in and out of taxis as we filmed, and soon discovered that, due to it being the winter off-season, many of the splendid places wed been counting upon filming were either shut for redecorating or covered with webs of scaffolding... "What do you mean its closed for repairs?!" We finished up in the cemetary for the shots with the statue which had been used for the singles cover (a gentleman who made pianos for the rich & famous of his time, I believe), did the sunset shot, and then dashed back to London to start editing."

Another video I got inspired to make one night after listening to this song. (I usually get my best inspiration at night. Dont ask. Hee~hee!) Anyways, I know it may not make too much sense but its supposed to keep you guessing. I was hoping for something Hitchock-style or Twilight Zone-style.

Ultravox - Astradyne
This isnt the official video - I dont think there is one. The song is the 1st track from the Vienna album & my favourite Ultravox track of all time. The video actually belongs to "Individual choice" by Jean-Luc Ponty. It took me a while to line things up. I did it years ago, but it still works for me - Enjoy! (Favourite bits - Train track. People chaos. Lock opens. Electric violins & lightning. Out of the tunnel. Superfast highway. Sun up.)

John Foxx - Hes A Liquid - 1980 - EQ Filtered
John Foxx shows us how to make a video thats just as surreal as the lyrics to the song
Hes a Liquid is from John Foxxs 1980 seminal album Metamatic and was the b-side of the 12" single Underpass
Gary Numan pipped both John Foxx and The Human League to the post as far as breaking into the synthpop mainstream goes
However John Foxx as the front man for Ultravox, did play a part in influencing Gary Numan in his Tubeway Army days

Visage - Fade To Gray
1980) Pioneers of the New Romantic movement, the synth-pop group Visage emerged in 1978 from the London club Billys, a neo-glam nightspot which stood in stark contrast to the prevailing punk mentality of the moment. Spearheading Billys ultra-chic clientele were Steve Strange, a former member of the punk band the Moors Murderers, as well as DJ Rusty Egan, onetime drummer with the Rich Kids; seeking to record music of their own to fit in with the clubs regular playlist (a steady diet of David Bowie, Kraftwerk and Roxy Music), Strange and Egan were offered studio time by another Rich Kids alum, guitarist Midge Ure. In late 1978, this trio recorded a demo which yielded the first Visage single, an aptly-futuristic cover of Zager & Evans "In the Year 2525."
Adding Ultravox keyboardist Billy Currie as well as three members of Magazine -- bassist Barry Adamson, guitarist John McGeoch, and keyboardist Dave Formula -- Visage signed to Radar Records to release "Tar" in September 1979, followed a year later by their self-titled debut LP. The album yielded a major single in "Fade to Grey," an instant club classic which heralded synth-pops imminent commercial breakthrough. The follow-up, "Mind of a Toy," was a Top 20 hit, but after releasing 1982s The Anvil, Visage began to disintegrate -- first Ure exited to focus all of his energies on fronting Ultravox, then Currie and Formula broke ranks as well. 1984s Beat Boys was the groups final recording, although a remixed "Fade to Grey" was a UK Top 40 hit during the early 90s. ~ Jason Ankeny, All Music Guide

OMD vs SASH - Enola Gay (remix) Circa 2003
OMD dared to venture into electronic music, where only a few had attempted before, and failed. They influenced Many popular bands throughout the 80s and 90s, which also found stardom, such as Erasure, Human League, Ultravox, and even present day dance scene! Their music is still used in modern music, and heres 1 fine example how OMD still sounds as good today. ive heard in grapvine that theyre making a come back this may, ill be watching out for ya!!

Original video for the title song of Midge Ures 1996 album. When released, it only reached nº 70 in UK, in May of that year. In January 1998, it reached nº 1 in Austria, largely because its exposure through a Swatch watches commercial which meant a moderate extra success in Europe (search for "How Long is a Swatch Minute? (¿Cuánto dura 1 minuto Swatch?)" in YouTube). Hey, those austrians know about music !.

En enero de 1998 alcanzó el número 1 en Austria, sobre todo debido a su exposición en un comercial de relojes Swatch que significó un moderado éxito extra en Europa (buscar "How Long is a Swatch Minute? Alphaville - Forever Young
1984) The simple, synth-based Europop of Berlins Alphaville borrowed heavily from the textures and drama of Ultravox and was essentially a showcase for the over-the-top, Bryan Ferry-influenced vocals of Marian Gold; the early lineup also featured Bernhard Lloyd and Frank Mertens, but membership fluctuated over most of the groups career. Alphaville had a big European hit in 1984 with its first single, "Big in Japan," but Gold failed to match its appeal with most subsequent efforts, in spite of using Tangerine Dreams Klaus Schulze as a producer. ~ Steve Huey, All Music Guide

Gary Numan - Cars
1979) One of the founding fathers of synth pop, Gary Numans influence extends far beyond his lone American hit, "Cars," which still stands as one of the defining new wave singles.
That seminal track helped usher in the synth pop era on both sides of the Atlantic, especially his native U.K., where he was a genuine pop star and consistent hitmaker during the early 80s. Even after new wave had petered out, Numans impact continued to make itself felt; his dark, paranoid vision, theatrically icy alien persona, and clinical, robotic sound were echoed strongly in the work of many goth rock and (especially) industrial artists to come. For his part, Numan just kept on recording, and by the late 90s, hed become a hip name to drop; prominent alt-rock bands covered his hits in concert, and a goth-flavored brand of industrial dance christened darkwave looked to him as its mentor.
Numan was born Gary Anthony James Webb on March 8, 1958, in the west London section of Hammersmith. A shy child, music brought him out of his shell; he began playing guitar in his early teens and played in several short-lived bands. Inspired by the amateurism of the punk movement, he joined a punk group called the Lasers in 1976. The following year, he and bassist Paul Gardiner split off to form a new group, dubbed Tubeway Army, with drummer Bob Simmonds; they recorded a couple of singles under futuristic pseudonyms (Valerium [or Valerian], Scarlett, and Rael, respectively) that attempted to match their new interest in synthesizers. Scrapping that idea, Webb rechristened himself Gary Numan and replaced Simmonds with his uncle Jess Lidyard. Thus constituted, Tubeway Army cut a set of punk-meets-Kraftwerk demos for Beggars Banquet in early 1978, which were released several years later as The Plan. That summer, Numan sang a TV commercial jingle for jeans, and toward the end of the year the groups debut album, Tubeway Army, appeared. Chiefly influenced by Kraftwerk and David Bowies Berlin-era collaborations with Brian Eno, the album also displayed Numans fascination with the electronic, experimental side of glam (Roxy Music, Ultravox) and Krautrock (Can), as well as science fiction writer Philip K. Dick.
The groups second album, Replicas, credited to Gary Numan & Tubeway Army, was released in early 1979. Its accompanying single, "Are Friends Electric?," was a left-field smash, topping the U.K. charts and sending Replicas to number one on the album listings as well. (The record also included "Down in the Park," an oft-covered song that stands as one of Numans most gothic outings.) Numan had become a star overnight, despite critical distaste for any music so heavily reliant on synthesizers, and he formed a larger backing band that replaced Tubeway Army, keeping Gardiner on bass. The Pleasure Principle was released in the fall of 1979 and spawned Numans international hit "Cars," which reached the American Top Ten and hit number one in the U.K.; the album also became Numans second straight British number one. He put together a hugely elaborate, futuristic stage show and went on a money-losing tour, and also began to indulge his hobby as an amateur pilot with his newfound wealth.
Numan returned in the fall of 1980 with Telekon, his third straight chart-topping album in Britain, and scored two Top Five hits with "We Are Glass" and "I Die: You Die"; "This Wreckage" later reached the Top 20. In 1981, Numan announced his retirement from live performance, playing several farewell concerts just prior to the release of The Dance. While The Dance and its lead single, "Shes Got Claws," were both climbing into the British Top Five, Numan attempted to fly around the world, but in a bizarre twist was arrested in India on suspicion of spying and smuggling. The charges were dropped, although authorities confiscated his plane. His retirement proved short-lived, but when he returned in 1982 with I, Assassin, some of his popularity had dissipated -- perhaps because of the retirement announcement, perhaps because the charts were overflowing with synth pop, much of which was already expanding on Numans early innovations (which were starting to sound repetitive). I, Assassin was another Top Ten album, and "We Take Mystery (To Bed)" another hit, but in general Numans singles were starting to slip on the charts; the title track of 1983s Warriors became his last British Top Ten hit.
