The Minus 5 "Groove Supply"
|
|
The Minus 5 - a brief compendium: Scott McCaughey. Charioteer, optometrist, master brewer, or corpse? The blatherers rage on. What HAS been established is that "McCoy" is long addicted to rocknroll and its various sidekicks, at great expense to family and friends. To wit: Young Fresh Fellows (1983 to present) -- songwriter, singer, instrumentalist; The Minus 5 (1993 to present) -- songwriter, singer, instrumentalist; R.E.M. (1994 to present) -- instrumentalist; Tuatara (1996 to present) --instrumentalist, songwriter.

Intimate little gig. Certain band members were reportedly a little hungover. I was front row.

Robyn Hitchcock "Adventure Rocketship"
|
|
From "Ole! Tarantula" for sale at www.YepRoc.com!
Robyn Hitchcock sought out some old friends to record his new album, Ole! Tarantula, and he found the Venus 3: Peter Buck, Scott McCaughey and Bill Rieflin. By enlisting "3/4s of the Minus 5 and half of R.E.M," Hitchcock has created what he calls, "the rockingest record Ive made in years." While the album roars with the garage-fueled energy of his Soft Boys days, Hitchcocks lyricism continues to drive his songs. The New York Times says, "[His songs] bridge the psychedelia of Pink Floyds Syd Barrett and the archetypal English nonsense of Edward Lear," and Rolling Stone says, "Robyn Hitchcocks songs are a lot like the genetic code: theyre tough to crack, but the secret of life is in there somewhere." In addition to the Venus 3 core group, Ole! Tarantula was engineered by Seattle mainstay Kurt Bloch and features a cast of recurrent and new characters in the Hitchcock story: Morris Windsor (Soft Boys/Egyptians), Sean Nelson (Harvey Danger), Chris Ballew (Presidents of The United States of America), Kimberly Rew (Soft Boys) and Ian McLagan (The Faces). Robyn Hitchcock and the Venus 3 will be touring in the fall of 2006.

Crosby Nash BBC Simple Man - Marrakesh Express (1 of 5)
|
|
These videos are from a September 11 1970 half hour television performance Graham and David did for the BBC.
It was right after CSNY had finished their famous...or infamous... four way street summer tour. with stories of epic melt downs and cosmic feedings between them all, the all star endeavor which had only began two years prior had all but imploded on itself.
Fortunately, all of the guys didnt abandon their relationships all together. Neil recruited Stephen, David, and Graham for backing vocals on After the Gold Rush and Harvest. Crosby invited, among other amazing musicians, Nash, and Young to sing and play on his consummate album If I Could Only Remember My Name.
(Interestingly, of all the musicians David invited to play on his album: Nash, Young, Jerry Garcia,Phil Lesh, Mickey Hart,Bill Kreutzmann, Jorma Kaukonen, Joni Mitchell, Grace Slick, David Freiberg, Paul Kantner, Jack Casady, Gregg Rolie, and Michael Shrieve...missing was Stephen Stills)
Of all the members of CSNY David and Grahams relationship seemed to be the one that stayed most friendly. In these videos you can really see how jovial and genuinely humorous they were with each other and with their audience. not to mention their majestic vocal blending. (the two part harmonies, which sound like five part, on Guinnevere and Song With no Words are particularly mind blowing)
If you dig this flavor of Crosby and Nash i would recommend finding a copy of their 10/10/1971 live recording Another Stoney Evening if you havent already.
------------------------------------------------
This first clip opens with Nash playing Simple Man by himself, then joined by Crosby doing ending harmonies; transitioning to guitars, they play Marrakesh Express.
------------------------------------------------
"[Following the break up] Crosby and Nash embarked on a successful acoustic tour accompanied only by their own guitars and piano, captured for the document Another Stoney Evening.
On tour, Nash and Crosby rediscovered the joy they had felt with CSN at first, minus the egotistic in-fighting that had made the last CSNY shows so difficult. That enthusiasm led to the studio for their first album as a duo, a mix of abstract introspection from Crosby and concise pop tunes from Nash prosaically entitled Graham Nash David Crosby, which peaked at #4 on the pop album chart."

I know, its a lot going on...but maybe its a good thing. If I had full edits of all six versions then all hell would break loose.
So, 5 of the 6 1:30min long edits, minus the Early Summer Version (which, naturally, is my favorite...)
Sound goes in and out a bit because the computer is trying to figure out whats going on...

David and Graham play Guinnevere from the first CSN album; its amazing to hear how well their voice blend. obviously the three part harmony on the album is out of this world, but its almost another thing to hear just the two of them. voices dancing around like footprints on the beaches.

Minus The Bear "Lets Play Guitar..." w/the Velvet Teen

|
Minus the Bear plays "Lets Play Guitar In A Five Guitar Band" with The Velvet Teen @ the Glass House in Pomona, California on November 8, 2006.
This video was taken with a camera that was meant primarily for still photos; so please excuse the quality. Also, I was situated directly in front of the bass amp; as a result, the bass drowned pretty much everything out. Sorry.

Maps and Atlases: "The Most Trustworthy Tin Cans"
|
|
Back when I worked a 9-to-5 job and first found myself with nigh-unlimited time to peruse the Internet for new music, I briefly dabbled in the Chicago post-rock/math-rock scene that was home to the likes of Tortoise, Joan of Arc and the Sea and Cake. This dabbling lasted for about a day. I imagine it wouldve lasted longer if Maps and Atlases had been around then. They actually sound much more like an amped-up version of Minus the Bear than any of those Chicago bands but they fit the scene well and seem to already be generating a bit of a following, based on how the crowd at this show responded to them.

LYRICS(CREDIT: JO BRO FANSITE):
Wouldnt it be nice if I had some tissues
Wipe away the tears thats right you got issues
While you keep asking questions well I dont care
And how many times will it take you to figure out
How much I hate you Im right, your wrong, move on
[Chorus]
Cause you love me
And I hate you
Im right
Your wrong
Move on
Wouldnt it be nice if you stopped whining
And telling all your friends that Ive been lying
You can trust me when I tell you were through (were through)
And how many times will it take you
Do the math me minus you
Im right, your wrong move on
[Chorus]
Cause you love me
And I hate you
Im right
Your wrong
Move on
How many feelings will you harbor
Get over it your friends are so much hotter (oh yeah)
Im right, your wrong, move on
Im right, your wrong, move on
[Chorus x2]
Cause you love me
And I hate you
Im right
Your wrong
Move on

Huey Lewis & The News - Stuck With You
|
|
1986) Huey Lewis & the News were a bar band that made good. With their simple, straightforward rock & roll, the San Francisco-based group became one of Americas most popular pop/rock bands of the mid-80s. Inspired equally by British pub rock and 60s R&B and rock & roll, the News had a driving, party-hearty spirit that made songs like "Workin for a Livin," "I Want a New Drug," "The Heart of Rock & Roll," "Hip to Be Square" and "The Power of Love" yuppie anthems. At their core, the group were a working band, and they knew how to target their audience, writing odes to 9-to-5 jobs and sports. As the decade progressed, the group smoothed out their sound to appeal to the aging baby boomers who adopted them, but by the beginning of the 90s, the appeal of their formula had decreased. Nevertheless, the group remained a popular concert attraction, and they continued to have radio hits on adult contemporary stations.
The roots of Huey Lewis & the News lay in Clover, an early-70s country-rock band from San Francisco that featured Lewis (vocals, harmonica) and keyboardist Sean Hopper. Clover moved to England in 1976 upon the urging of Nick Lowe, who believed they could fit into the U.K.s pub rock scene. In a short time, the group cultivated a small following. Lowe produced the groups first single, "Chicken Funk," which featured lead vocals by Lewis and, the following year, the band, minus Lewis, supported Elvis Costello on his debut album, My Aim Is True. Polygram released two Clover albums that failed to find an audience and when their leader, John McFee, left the group to join the Doobie Brothers, the band broke up and returned to California. Before returning to the States, Lewis played harmonica on Lowes Labour of Lust and Dave Edmunds Repeat When Necessary, which also featured Lewis song "Bad Is Bad."Upon their return to America, Lewis and Hopper began jamming at a Marin County bar called Uncle Charlies, which is where they formed American Express with Mario Cipollina (bass), Johnny Colla (saxophone, guitar) and Bill Gibson (drums), who had all played in Soundhole, one of Van Morrisons backing bands in the late 70s. American Express recorded a disco version of "Theme From Exodus," calling it "Exodisco." Mercury released the single, which was ignored. In 1980, the group added lead guitarist Chris Hayes and were offered a contract by Chrysalis who requested that the band change their name. The members chose Huey Lewis & the News and the bands eponymous debut was released later that year to little attention.
Picture This, the groups second album, was released early in 1982 and the record became a hit on the strength of the Top Ten single "Do You Believe in Love," which was written by former Clover producer Robert John "Mutt" Lange. A couple other minor hits, "Hope You Love Me Like You Say You Do" and "Workin for a Livin" followed, and the band began building a strong following by touring heavily. Sports, the groups third album, was released in the fall of 1983 and it slowly became a multi-platinum success, thanks to touring and a series of clever, funny videos that received heavy MTV airplay. "Heart and Soul" (number eight, 1983), "I Want a New Drug" (number six, 1984), "The Heart of Rock & Roll" (number six, 1984) and "If This Is It" (number six, 1984) all became Top Ten hits, and Sports climbed to number one in 1984; it would eventually sell over seven million copies. Late in 1984, Lewis sued Ray Parker, Jr., claiming that his song "Ghostbusters" plagiarized "I Want a New Drug." The suit was settled out of court. The News had their first number one single in 1985 with "The Power of Love," taken from the soundtrack to Back to the Future.
Huey Lewis & the News returned with their fourth album, Fore!, in 1986. The record sailed to number one on the strength of five Top Ten singles: "Stuck With You" (number one, 1986), "Hip to Be Square" (number three, 1986), "Jacobs Ladder" (number one, 1987), "I Know What I Like" (number nine, 1987), and "Doing It All for My Baby" (number six, 1987). The band was riding high on the charts when they decided to expand their musical reach with 1988s Small World, dipping tentatively into various American roots musics. While the record produced the Top Ten hit "Perfect World," it was a commercial disappointment after two chart-topping, multi-platinum albums, stalling at number 11 on the charts and only going platinum.

Huey Lewis & The News - Heart And Soul
|
|
1983) Huey Lewis & the News were a bar band that made good.

Never Let Me Go - Family Force 5
|
|
*SONG ONLY*
Lyrics:
Time dont wait for no one
Leaving you broken
Especially when youre under the gun
Makes things complicated
Leaving you jaded toward
Everything thats under the sun
Tick Tock Tick Tock, Goes the clock
Tick Tock Tick Tock, Till I drop
But time dont phase me, Not a bit
Cuz I give mine to you, All of it
Death cant shake me, From ya hand
Me minus you equals, Not a chance
Its good to know that, When I go
Youll never ever let me
Never ever let me
Never ever let me
Never ever let me
Never ever let me
Never ever let me
Never ever let me
Never ever let me
Never ever let me go
[Chorus]
I want some Face to Face
Just Gimme that Full Embrace
What did I Hear you Say?
That you will Never Ever Let me Go
Ill never Know
When Its my Time to Go
I Know one Thing fo sho
That you Will Never Ever Let me Go
Never ever let me go
The mind is a ticking time bomb
Itching to go off
Impatiently it waits in the calm
Bang, Bang, it might be over
In one little moment
Before you know it
Its all gone
Tick Tock Tick Tock, Goes the clock
Tick Tock Tick Tock, gonna pop
Its good to know that, When it goes
Youll never ever let me
Never ever let me
Never ever let me
Never ever let me
Never ever let me go
[Chorus]
I want some Face to Face
Just Gimme that Full Embrace
What did I Hear you Say?
That you will Never Ever Let me Go
Ill never Know
When Its my Time to Go
I Know one Thing fo sho
That you Will Never Ever Let me Go
Never ever let me go
One thing Ill never know
The time and place that Ill go
Death can shake me from your hand
You Never let me go
I Know
You Never ever ever evey every let me go
You Never ever let me go
I Know

A trees story (when she loved me)
|
|
I had a request from someone who saw my Dark Waltz picture movie, and he requested me to do a video to toy storys Wehn she loved me song. I actually was going to take this in a different direction. But once I started looking through pictures to use I came across a lot of tree videos. And like all my other mini-movies, this one too goes along with the song and isnt just a bunch of pictures thrown together.
~~~THE STORY~~~
The tree at the beginning is freshly planted (i think its the 3rd or 4th slide) a little girl comes along and the tree and her become friends. They spend their whole growing up lives together, but all the sudden the girl descovers boys, and the tree gets left alone. At the end the girl goes back to hug her tree for the final time because it was cut down. At the very end the trees seeds bloom and grow another tree, but the girl is in her grave. Burried underneath her trees children.
I promise its good. Please take a look. Its only about 2 minutes long (minus the credits)
Total time on project:5 hours.
google earthwalk with arduino at berlin designmai 2007
|
|
Arduino Earthwalk represents an intuitive way to control Google Earth. The user navigates on the earth´s surface using five footpads. The arrows represent the cardinal points as heading directions. Activation of one of the pads simultaneously with the center pad will speed up the pace of navigation. Simultaneous activation of the pads marked with plus or minus will result in zooming in and out respectively.
The installation was created by Jens Franke (www.jensfranke.net) and Thomas Gläser (www.thomasglaeser.de). The project was carried out within the framework of the Arduino Workshop at the Design College HfG Schwäbisch Gmünd, winter 2006, under the supervision of Massimo Banzi, one of the inventors of Arduino.
Die Installation ist eine intuitive Art der Bedienung von Google Earth. Man bewegt sich mit Hilfe von fünf Fußpads auf der Erde. Die vier Pfeile stellen die vier Himmelsrichtungen dar in die man sich bewegen kann. Eine Kombination mit dem mittleren Fußpad erlaubt ein schnelleres Fortbewegen. Stellt man sich gleichzeitig auf die beiden Plus-Pfeile, dann vergrößert sich der Bildausschnitt.
Das ganze Projekt wurde von Jens Franke (www.jensfranke.net) und Thomas Gläser (www.thomasglaeser.de) des Arduino Workshop an der Hochschule für Gestaltung Schwäbisch Gmünd (Wintersemester 2006) unter der Leitung von Massimo Banzi, einem der Erfinder von Arduino erschaffen.
